Jesh & Jerry, an amazing friendship.

I just spent 3 days at a Jesh De Rox seminar in my hometown Canberra. This guy is freaking amazing. If you ever get the chance to go to a Jesh Workshop DO IT! To add to this Jerry Ghionis was also at the workshop - talk about talent overload - not to mention the 18 other wonderful photographers who shared this experience with me. Love to you all!

I'm not going to say too much about it because you just have to do it. I'm sure Jeshs' workshop will have a huge impact on my photography and my whole outlook on life. Andrew & Renee's wedding

Andrew and Renee celebrated their wedding day at the beautiful St. Clements Anglican Church, Yass. The day was absolutely freezing but despite this we got some wonderful photos and had a fantastic day together. A really nice touch to the day was that Renee wore her mum's wedding dress.
Andrew and Renee couldn't of been more sweet - and I think Andrew had the best wedding speech I've ever heard (He even had me and the Shaw Vineyard Staff in tears!).
Wishing you both and your gorgeous son Finn a future filled with happiness, hugs and laughter.

MEET OUR 2009 CUTEST BABY IN A BEANIE

Contratulations to 2 1/2 year old Jasmine Gunn who was voted this years cutest "Baby in a Beanie"
We had a wonderful day at MissChiefmaker at Rodney's Nursery yesterday. The sun was shining, there were lots of families, face painting, animal baloon making, a sausage sizzle and the final judging for the competition. So far we have raised $1500 for the Intensive Care Foundation - the final tally will be known in 3 weeks.

A huge Thank You to our judges, Julie Samaras from Canberra Weekly, Jenny Tiffen from Fitmums Canberra, Kate Dawson - MissChief Maker, Peter Cursley from the Intensive Care Foundation and Tania McCartney - Local author. We all found it very difficult to make the final decision - there were too many cuties! I would especially like to thank Katie Dawson from MissChief Maker who ran the competition with me - without her help I couldn't of done it - Thanks Katie!

Week 4 Winners and Judges Picks - Congratulations

We'd love to congratulate this weeks winners and judges picks from the past four weeks. It's been a wonderful competition and we have raised some much needed funds for the Mobile Humidicrib for the Newborn Intensive Care Foundation.

I hope you've all had as much fun as we have during the competition. To me all of your babies are winners.

If you haven't received your invitation in the mail all of our contestants (and their friends and family) are invited to our final judging announcement on this Sunday - 6th September at MissChief Maker @ Rodney's Pialligo. I am always torn when I post the winners because I think they're all beautiful - each of these little wonders has their own beauty, their own little habits & nuances but it is a competition after all so this weeks winners are ... BABIES IN BEANIES - VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE IN WEEK 2

We've had a wonderful response from our first week of Babies in Beanies. When we have tallied the votes from each site we'll announce the four finalists from week one.

NOW - to vote for your favourite Baby in a Beanie register your vote on our poll. Voting will close for week 2 at 6:00pm Friday 21st August, 2009. You can also vote at www.misschiefmaker.com.au. The four babies with the highest total votes (two highest from each site) will go into the final. You can only vote once on each site. Make sure you send the links to your friends to vote! We will also be including a judges choice from each week - these will be notified on the 4th September, before our final judging and presentation.

If you are interested in entering your child in the competition we still have some spots available on 23rd August between 11:30am and 2pm at MissChief Maker in Rodney’s Nursery, Pialligo or on Wednesday 19th and 26th August at my country studio near Royalla.

A $5 entry fee will go towards fundraising for the new Emergency Retrieval Intensive Care Cot for the Canberra Hospital. This fundraising is for the Newborn Intensive Care Foundation - 100% of funds go directly towards helping critically ill babies.
The Babies in Beanies photo competition is open to all children aged 0-5 years and mums can choose from two great locations for their children’s pictures, each celebrating a unique aspect of Canberra winters.

The prize for the winner is a framed print from Snowgum Studio worth $600, plus a $100 wardrobe from MissChief Maker.

APPA's (Australian Professional Photography Awards)

I recently received 3 awards at the APPA's in Sydney. I was sooo excited when I heard (I was away on a family vacation so I couldn't go to them. My girlfrieds Jennifer and Hilary (both great photographers) kept me posted on my progress. They even rang me when one of my images was being judged and held the phone to the speaker so I could hear one of my images being judged. Anyway I took away 2 gold awards and 1 silver which blew me away. Out of 2,400 images less than 3% received a gold so it was a great honour for me to have some of the top Aussie photographers rewarding my work.

I'd just like to say a huge thank you to Hilary for encouraging me to enter the images and also to my wonderful brides and grooms - without them none of this would be possible.

PS the little girls on the bench and the little girl under the address both got gold awards and the dancing couple got a silver award.

CHRIS IS 18 TODAY

My eldest son Chris is 18th. How fast the years have gone. Anyway I thought I'd share with you a few family pics. I'm so proud of him - he's a young man who really has his head screwed on the right way - and he's very handsome (like his dad).

What's new? Lots!

It has been sometime since my last post - way too long! Anyway I'm back and have lots to share with you.

I have been in the NT for a few weeks and have some really lovely shots I'd like to share - stay tuned for these!

Also our Babies in Beanies competition starts this weekend and we are all but fully booked for this weeks sessions. We've had a wonderful response from the public and are very excited. The new mobile humidicrib is such a wonderful cause. If you don't wish to enter the competition but would like to donate please email me and I can foward you the details. Voting and posting of entries will start next week on my blog or at www.misschiefmaker.com.au.

Next. Tonight is the opening of the annual AIPP (ACT Division's) awards exhibition. The exhibition will be held at the Canberra Glassworks from 31st July till 9th August. If you love photography go along and see some of the best work from local photographers.

Yes Snowgum Studio and Mischiefmaker Children's Wear are coming together to host a "Babies in Beanies" competition in August. If you think you've got the cutest Baby in a Beanie (age 1-5) stay tuned for more details.

The competition is a fundraiser for a new humidicrib at the Canberra Hospital and there'll be some great prizes for the winner.

Two Beautiful Newborn Twin Girls

My sister Christine had twins eight month ago and how quickly you forget how little they were. These two little beauties Ava & Dakota were only 5 weeks old when I did this shoot. There is something really lovely about twins - you just can't stop looking at them together. I thought mum & dad were amazingly relaxed & confident considering their first babies were twins. I can't wait to watch them grow up.

And off the subject a bit isn't this weather bloody cold? Hubby took the boys away to the mountains this weekend camping and fishing - well all I can say is I'm glad it's them and not me. I'm a bit of a princess when it comes to the weather and am much more comfortable sitting infront of my fire than camping in a tent in the mountains! The other positive out of all of this was I got lots of work done and the house stayed clean for the whole weekend.

Only 3 weeks to go and were off to Darwin and Katherine in the NT - where its going to be warm and sunny. We're combining a bit of work and pleasure so we'll be staying with our good friends Chuck, Lou and little Stirling and doing lots of great touristy things and a few portraits in between.

Andrew & Renee's engagement shoot

I did this shoot for Andrew & Renee who are getting married in October. Little Finn had a great time running around the place and judging from the great shots we got their wedding will be great to photograph.

A lovely little touch for the wedding will be the fact that Renee will be wearing her mum's wedding dress.

Maternity Shoot - Canberra

What could be more lovely than a woman with a beautiful pregnant belly. I did this shoot last week for Kylie and her gorgeous little daughter Asha. Don't you just love her beautiful strawberry blonde hair? My favourite images are the first two and last one- they just capture lovely little moments between mother and daughter. Only 1 1/2 weeks to go now and there will be a new addition to the family whom I can't wait to meet and photograph. All the best Kylie!

Kulture Break - " I Can" production

The Man Up Crew

I thought I'd share with you a few images from Kulture Breaks "I Can" production on Saturday night. One of my boys "Jack" is in a special dance crew called "Man Up" and is absolutely loving it. I thought when I had 3 boys i'd missed my opportunity to have a dancer in the family but Jack has really got into it.

What I love about Kulture Break are the positive messages they are giving to our youth - like "I can do it" and "we can give back to our community." It's a credit to everyone involved there - they put so much into helping our youth.

The "I can" production also had a couple of showstoppers with "So You think you can dance" contestants BJ and Timomatic showing us their amazing mooves. Timomatic used to be one of the dancers at Kulture Break so it was great to see him giving back as well.

AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) ACT Awards

Just thought I'd share with you a few images from the recent ACT AIPP Photography awards. I decided to enter the wedding category this year for the first time in 3 years and I was surprised how well I did. My little girls on the bench got a silver distinction and the little girl under the hanging dress also got a silver distinction. The cavalier on the brides lap and the flyaway veil both got silver awards.

It's funny how my best images always involve children -I'm always drawn to them at weddings - you never know what they'll do. I'll be entering these in the nationals this year and with any luck will qualify for my Masters witht the AIPP. Enjoy!

Baby Emily - Newborn Portrait Photography Canberra

Beautiful baby Emily is only 8 days old here. I couldn't believe how much hair this beautiful little bundle had. I don't know what it is about newborns but they always seem to sense when somethings going on. Miss E just didn't want to sleep for me - although you can't tell from the photos! I never get tired of photographing newborns they are just so precious, peaceful & innocent.

Percey Family - Portraits Canberra

Two blogs posted in a week for me - that has to be a first! I'm posting a few pics of the Percey family so they can have a sneak peak. We had a wonderful time on Sunday together - considering Saturday was horrid. Little T was such a pleasure to photograph as he ran around on the farm - and check out those eyes! He's going to be a real lady killer when he grows up.

Speaking of boys I think all of us mums who raise boys deserve a medal. Don't they say mums with boys have a place in heaven! Sunday night was a complete shocker for me. Hubby was away on a boys weekend and of course my oldest son - a bmx fanatic - had to come off his bike at a skate park and knock himself out. I arrive there to see him with blood running down the side of his face (thank god he wore a helmet) and him not really knowing what day it was. I have become quite accustomed to this after a ruptured spleen, broken ribs, arm and wrist, both knees requiring reconstructions and stitches (and this is only for the one child!). He was not in good shape when we arrived at the hospital and I can tell you I was really freaking out. Anyway he's ok and has been in bed all week trying to recover but I think I'm the one who's still in shock!
On the upside of all of this it's been nice to spend some one-on-one time with him at home. In this crazy busy world of ours sometimes it takes a disaster to make us stop and smell the roses.

Andrew & Sam's wedding

Andrew & Sam were married at the Rose Gardens at Old Parliament House yesterday. The weather was absolutely freezing (especially for Sam & Leearne who worse strapless dresses) but the beautiful autumn colours of the trees more than made up for it. Afterwards Andrew and Sam celebrated their wedding at the lovely Lobby Restaurant. One of the shot's i've posted is of the detail in Sam's dress. It had this really beautiful pleating which gave it a real elegance. I've also posted a few shots of their engagement shoot (Andrew I got the truck in). Wishing you both a wonderful honeymoon.

Chloe and Connor's Portraits.

I did this newborn shoot of Connor who just didn't want to go to sleep for mum and dad. He was sooo tiny. Must also mention big sister Chloe who stole the limelight a bit. While mum was feeding Connor and trying to get him to sleep Chloe took it upon herself to entertain me. She had the most amazing blue eyes. I hope mum and dad are getting a bit more sleep now!

Danny & Bronwyn's Wedding

Danny and Bronwyn were married last weekend at a beautifully renovated St. Christopher's Cathedral in Manuka. The weather was magnificent for them and Bronwyn looked absolutely beautiful in her magnificent flowing gown. It was a couple of firsts for me - my first time shooting at the National Archives and also at Hotel Realm. We got some really amazing images from both locations with a great mix of classic and modern architecture.

Roy & Rachel's Wedding - Carrington Bungendore NSW

Roy and Rachel were married in the beautiful gardens of the Carrington at Bungendore on 21st March. The wedding was a family affair with their two gorgeous boys Cameron & Luke as the pageboys. It's the first wedding I've been to where there were almost as many kids as Adults - and Rachel made sure the kids were well entertained with jumping castles and entertainment via the Gekko Gang. Mind you Rachel and Melanie (Bridesmaid) tried out the jumping castle as well! Wishing you both a wonderful life together.

AIPP Celebrating Women In Photography Ball

The AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) recently held it's first major event to celebrate Australian Women in Photography. The Black Tie gala night was at the Park Hyatt in Melbourne - very nice!

As a Gold Award winner I was the only Canberra Photographer asked to submit images for the event - I couldn't believe that my work was hanging alongside the best female photographers in Australia! Two of my good friends in Canberra (Hilary Wardhaugh and Jennier Nagy - also fantastic photographers) came to support me at the Ball (I was so nervous!)

The event honoured 7 amazing Australian Female Photographers, Ruby Spowart, Bronwyn Kidd, Kate Geraghty, Karen Gowlett-Holmes, Lyn Whitfield-King, Jackie Ranken and Olive Cotton (dec). I was honoured to be in the room with these amazing and humble women. Their talents and passion for photography have given us some iconic images ranging from a underwater photography, high end fashion photography, amazing landscapes, views of warzones and glimpses into peoples lives.

What struck me most about these women was their passion for their craft.

The event was also used to support the Olivia Newton John Wellness Centre which was a fantastic cause. One of the most moving parts of the evening was when a fellow photographer recounted her battle with cancer.

I've posted a few silly photos from my point-and-shoot camera of the night.

Garth & Rachael's Wedding

On the weekend Garth & Rachael tied the knot at Poacher's Pantry near Hall. If you've never been to Poacher's Pantry I thoroughly recommend it if you're into good food and wine with the bonus of lovely surrounds.

Rachael looked absolutely beautiful in a champaigne pink gown and sexy hot pink heels which matched the striking hot pink dresses the bridesmaids wore - and I must say the boys looked pretty darn good as well!

Although we ran out of light we got some beautiful images in the final minutes before dark. It really is a wonderful time to shoot. I couldn't resist taking a couple of shots of the landscape so enjoy!

Greg & Gai Maree's Wedding - Mona Braidwood

Greg & Gai Maree travelled all the way from their home town of Curban NSW to celebrate their wedding at the beautiful Mona Estate at Braidwood. I can't imagine a more beautiful spot to have a country wedding. There are so many beautiful locations for photos around Mona - almost too many. Greg & Gai Maree were the most lovely couple and I wish them lots of love, laughter and happiness in their life together. You guys were great!

Baby Indy

Hello 2009

Well this is my first post for 2009 and I must say I'm very excited about what lies ahead. I'll soon be launching a new website and blog with a very different feel so make sure you keep posted!

Firstly I would like to thank all the wonderful people that I've had the pleasure of photographing over the past 12 months. It's wonderful to be invited into the lives of so many families - even if its for such a short time. I've photographed hundreds of families over the past few years and its amazing to see how different - yet wonderful they all are. Families really are a sacred place where you can be at your best or worst and are still unconditionally loved. I love this quote from Harriet Beecher Stowe

Home is a place not only of strong affections, but of entire unreserve; it is life's undress rehearsal, its backroom, its dressing room, from which we go forth to more careful and guarded intercourse."

This year I challenge you all to take more time out and enjoy the little things in life - spend more time with your families. Most people I know (myself included) are time poor, rushing around stressed trying to cram a million things into a day and forgetting about what really matters - friends and family. If I only had one day to live I know I wouldn't want to spend it behind my computer! What would you do?

My sister Christine had two gorgeous twin girls last Monday. They are in Sydney at the moment at the Royal Women's hospital and we can't wait till they come home. Maddison Rose was 2kg (she's the one out of the crib). Little Alicia Kate was only 1.5kg and is still in the crib. We're all hoping she's out in a couple of days. You forget how tiny and frail new babies are. I can't believe my boys were that size once (well maybe not quite that small).

Water Skiing at Nelligen

My boys went skiing for the first time last week with their cousins down at Nelligen on the south coast. Scott & I got such a buzz watching the excitement on their faces when they got up for the first time. Thanks to uncle Dave and Aunty Rob for having us and to Kate for helping the boys. I recently took some photos of Val Jeffrey who is the known around Tharwa as its "unofficial mayor". Val is really passionate about his town and has done alot to help the community. Tero Seminar

June was a busy month for me in lots of ways. I went to the Tero Seminar in Hobart Tasmania. It was great. Great people, great food, great location and most of all I learnt heaps about running a photography business. Many thanks again to Julie and Tero for showing us their hospitality. Hello and welcome to my very first post. It's taken me sometime to do this but I'm excited and ready to go. Well there really can't be a much more fitting start to my blog. Last week I went to the Australian Professional Photography Awards in Brisbane. It was really something to see with Australian Photographers showcasing the best of their work. It's no wonder Australian Photographers are considered amongst the best in the world. And I have to do a bit of bragging also. I received 2 awards this year my very first gold (ballet girls) and a silver (landscape). I've posted them for you to check out.
